BB's Angel Tree

Betty Bush organized the Thrift Shop's contribution to the Holiday Toy Drive and Bike Run held today. The Columbia County Cruzers met up at GTO where Dorothy Futch and her crew took delivery of a sleigh load of toys for local area children.

Dorothy was most appreciative of all the Thrift Shop had done to help and she and Betty reviewed some of the many families that were to receive help this year. They also looked forward to expanding the program in the coming years and were delighted to be able to work together on such an endeavor.

Nicaragua Mission 2009

Dear Sponsors:

I can't begin to thank you enough for your support of our Mission to Nicaragua this year. We could not have accomplished all that we did without your generous contributions.

From June 20-27, our team of 19 traveled to the western highlands of Nicaragua. We brought medical, dental, and health and comfort care to hundreds of inhabitants of the remote villages of the area. We are the only dentists that will visit these folks this year and perhaps one of very few medical teams. Our dentists performed hundreds of extractions and restorations. Our doctor, nurse and pharmacist examined and provided prescription pharmaceuticals for hundreds of men, women, and children. We provided reading glasses, flip-flops, deodorant, soap, vitamins, sanitary pads, and toys from the 1900 pounds of supplies that your generosity made possible. Our teachers provided a structured educational experience for hundreds of children. We even showed the love we had for these beautiful people through a foot washing and pedicure service for the women.

You made this all possible. I have posted photos of our activities that you may view.

May God bless all of you,

Dr. Mark Davis

Penny Harvest donates to FWCTS

Students at Fort White Middle School took matters into their own hands with a project called Penny Harvest. They collected over a hundred thousand pennies and four of their chosen leader students brought their personally involved experiences to bear as they chose four local charities from a group of charities with whom they had became directly involved, to share in the proceeds of their efforts.

At a school board meeting at Fort White Middle School Tuesday evening, the details of the program were explained to the board, all of whom were quite impressed. One of the four charities selected to receive a check for $250 was the Fort White Community Thrift Shop and Sadie Wilbur, student, presented this very meaningful donation to Betty M. Bush, Treasurer.

Volunteer Meeting

This afternoon's Volunteer Meeting was a bright and warm one with plenty of information to spare. The many missions in which FWCTS is involved were reviewed, including a discussion of some of the details surrounding the efforts with helping people in the Gainesville area's "Tent City". Also discussed was the current need for more volunteers, so, if you are interested in helping out, please stop by and let us know.

Lamar Moseley represented the Florida Farm Bureau as he is seen here handing a check to FWCTS Treasurer, Betty M. Bush.

Of course, Lamar and crew were also quite capably handling the serving up of some outstanding fried catfish for the volunteers to enjoy after the meeting.

Volunteer Meeting

The shop held its routine meeting this afternoon to discuss our mission with and generally thank all of our wonderful volunteers for the gift of themselves they tirelessly make day after day.

Lamar, Doug and Wyles served up some right fine catfish and hush puppies, too.
